Job summary

Avant Homes is recruiting an Assistant Accountant for our Finance team based at our group head office in Barlborough, Chesterfield, with occasional travel to our East Midlands and North Yorkshire offices in Nottingham and Yorkshire.

We welcome recent graduates or those working toward AAT, ACA, ACCA or CIMA. The role covers monthly reconciliations, financial reporting and supporting cashflow and year-end processes in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Currently studying towards or holds AAT/ACA/ACCA/CIMA.
• Recent finance or accounting graduate welcome.
• Analytical, detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Produce monthly inter-company reconciliations.
• Produce balance sheet reconciliations.
• Produce P&L reconciliations.
• Maintenance and reconciliation of Fixed Asset Register.
• Preparation and posting of prepayments & accruals.
• Preparation and posting of journals.
• Assistance in bi weekly cashflow forecast.
• Assistance in the weekly cashflow reporting.
• Reviewing and processing employee expense claims.
• Assistance in the preparation of weekly reporting.
• Adhering to Group Policies and Processes within the department.
• Posting expenses analysis to the COINS ledger.
• Any other duties as reasonably requested.

The role of Assistant Accountant is to take responsibility for a variety of accounting tasks to ensure that financial information is reported accurately and reconciled on a monthly basis on behalf of the Avant Homes regional businesses.

As our Assistant Accountant, you will be responsible for a wide variety of duties including the delivery of accurate, timely and relevant financial reporting information within a fast-paced working environment.

The role will be best suited to an adaptable and resilient individual who is able to demonstrate their interest and enthusiasm in forging a career within the financial sector.

We are also open to applications from graduates who can demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail and genuine enthusiasm for developing within the financial sector.

Key duties and requirements

• Production of monthly Inter Company Reconciliations.
• Production of Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
• Production of P&L Reconciliations.
• Maintenance and reconciliation of Fixed Asset Register.
• Preparation and review of all Prepayments & Accruals.
• Preparation and posting of journals.
• Assistance in the preparation of the bi weekly cashflow forecast.
• Assistance in the preparation of the weekly cashflow reporting.

Who are we looking for?

To be successful as our Assistant Accountant, you will be either full or part qualified in either AAT, ACA, ACCA or CIMA. We are also open to applications from graduates who are looking to start their career within finance.

You will also possess;

• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills with working knowledge of VLookups, Pivot tables etc.
• A keen eye for detail.
• Strong presentation skills along with ability to analyse, process and evaluate financial data.
• Knowledge and experience of balance sheet reconciliations.
• The ability to work independently to deadlines, in particular at month end and year end.
• A flexible attitude to changing business needs.
