Job summary

MET Recruitment UK LTD in Bewdley is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a growing business where you can own month-end processes and broaden your management accounting experience. Working with the senior finance team, you will prepare monthly management accounts, post journals, perform reconciliations, and contribute to budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow reporting.

Assistant Accountant
Location: Bewdley
Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum
Contract: Permanent, Full Time, On-site

Are you an Assistant Accountant or Assistant Management Accountant looking for a broader role where you can take greater ownership of month-end and develop your management accounting experience?

We are recruiting an Assistant Accountant to join a growing business based in Bewdley. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has developed beyond purely transactional accounting and is looking for a varied, hands‑on role with greater exposure to management accounts, reporting and financial analysis.

Working closely with the senior finance team, you will support the production of accurate and timely financial information while taking responsibility for a range of month-end and financial control activities.

The Role

As Assistant Accountant, your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with the preparation of monthly management accounts
• Preparing and posting month-end journals, accruals and prepayments
• Completing balance sheet and control account reconciliations
• Supporting monthly P&L review and variance analysis
• Investigating discrepancies and ensuring accurate financial reporting
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow reporting
• Maintaining and reconciling the fixed asset register
• Assisting with VAT returns and associated reconciliations
• Supporting bank and intercompany reconciliations
• Producing financial analysis and reports to support business decision-making
• Working with departments across the business to ensure costs are accurately recorded and allocated
• Supporting year-end accounts preparation and external audit
• Identifying opportunities to improve financial controls, processes and reporting
• Providing support across the wider finance function when required
• Assisting with ad hoc finance projects and analysis

About You

We are looking for someone who has gained solid practical accounting experience and is now ready to take greater ownership within a broad finance role.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience as an Assistant Accountant, Assistant Management Accountant or similar
• Practical month-end accounting experience
• Experience of journals, accruals and prepayments
• Strong balance sheet reconciliation skillsli>
• Exposure to management accounts and P&L reporting
• Good Excel skills and confidence using accounting systems
• A good understanding of transactional finance and financial controls
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• The confidence to investigate discrepancies and take ownership of your work
• The ability to work effectively within a small, hands‑on finance team

You may be AAT qualified, studying towards CIMA or ACCA, or qualified by experience. Practical accounting capability and commercial understanding are more important than qualification status.
