About the Role

As an Asset Planning Engineer (Non-Infrastructure), you'll be responsible for identifying, assessing, and developing investment opportunities across our non-infrastructure asset base. Working closely with operational teams, asset specialists, and programme managers, you'll analyse asset performance, quantify risks, and develop solutions that optimise value, performance, cost, and carbon impact.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence major capital investment decisions, taking projects from concept through to design stage while helping deliver a resilient and sustainable water service for our customers. You'll also have the opportunity to develop your expertise in electrical asset management alongside specialist engineers.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Identifying and prioritising investment opportunities through data analysis, asset performance reviews, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Assessing risks and developing cost-effective, sustainable mitigation strategies.

  • Preparing business cases, project scopes, cost estimates, and carbon assessments.

  • Managing projects through the planning and design stages.

  • Supporting the development of long-term asset strategies and investment plans.

  • Collaborating with operational, engineering, and programme delivery teams to maximise asset value and performance.

  • Driving innovation and continuous improvement within asset planning methodologies.

  • Ensuring assets comply with regulatory requirements and continue to deliver excellent customer service.

About You

We're looking for a proactive and analytical engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges and influencing investment decisions.

You'll ideally have:

  • Degree-level qualification in an Engineering discipline (Electrical or Mechanical preferred).

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.

  • Knowledge of water industry assets, equipment, and operational processes.

  • Experience managing stakeholders and balancing competing priorities.

  • Project management experience, ideally within engineering, utilities, or infrastructure environments.

  • Knowledge of asset management principles and investment planning.

  • Competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and data management systems.

  • A full UK driving licence.

Desirable
  • APM, PRINCE2, or another relevant professional qualification.

  • Electrical, Mechanical, or MEICA-related experience.

  • Understanding of water treatment processes and regulatory frameworks.

Working Arrangements

This role is primarily based at our Hatfield Head Office, with regular travel to operational sites and regional offices. We offer hybrid working, with an expectation of at least three days per week spent in the office or on-site, alongside flexibility to support business and stakeholder needs.

Benefits:
  • Competitive salary dependant on skills and experience

  • Learning and development opportunities, including mentoring and a range of formal courses and open learning resources.

  • Entry into the company annual bonus scheme.

  • Annual leave from 23-27 rising with length of service, and the option to purchase up to 5 extra days.

  • A Celebration Day in addition to public holidays that people can use to celebrate a religious festival or other occasion that is important to them.

  • A generous 'double match pension scheme' that doubles the contributions you make (company contribution capped at 12%)

  • We offer a range of family benefits including enhanced Maternity, Adoption, Paternity, Shared Parental Leave, Fertility Support Leave and up to 5 full or 10 half days of paid Carers Leave.

  • Menopause policy and Reasonable Adjustment policy to help everyone perform at their best.

  • Access to our Wellbeing Centre with support for looking after your physical and mental health.

  • Discounts at a Range of Retail Outlets through our Tap4Perks scheme

  • Discounts on Dental and Medical Insurance through our Tap4Perks scheme through salary sacrifice

  • Up to 4 Affinity days a year to volunteer in the community.
