About

Asset Controller - Carlisle

Job Purpose

To manage DRS assets, including Cars and DRS Traction & Rolling Stock (T&RS), on the rail network for planned and remedial maintenance. The goal is to ensure minimum disruption to service delivery and act as the handshake between Operations and Engineering.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Resource Planning: Diagram the resource plan for Locos, Wagons, and Cars, optimizing assets to best fit business requirements.
  2. Maintenance Coordination: Review maintenance and exam plans with Operations Planning and Fleet Planners. Coordinate transfer moves to ensure all DRS and third-party fleet maintenance is carried out within the maintenance window.
  3. Operational Efficiency: Liaise with Fleet Planners and Operations Planning to ensure coordination of Maintenance Plans and Business Delivery Plans, driving efficiencies in extracting and inserting T&RS.
  4. Peak Utilization: Work with Operations Planning and Fleet Planners to identify periods of peak utilization requirements across all fleets, aiming to reduce the impact of maintenance requirements on service delivery.
  5. Communication: Manage robust communication channels between Operations Planning and Fleet Planners to ensure pre-notification of urgent maintenance requirements to Depot Managers.
  6. Service Disruption: Work directly with the Operations Control Team to reduce service disruption when reacting to operational incidents.
  7. Maintenance Moves: Act as the Point of Contact for all maintenance move requirements, arranging movements between depots, to third parties, and test runs as required.
  8. KPI Input: Contribute to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure fleet availability and reliability, aligned to NTS’s Integrated Business Performance (IBP) KPIs.
  9. T&RS Allocation: Manage DRS traction and rolling stock (T&RS) allocation.
  10. Car Plan Management: Manage and be the point of contact for the weekly Car Plan.
  11. Cultural Principles: Live the guiding culture principles of Freedom, Helpfulness, and Drive.
  12. Equality and Inclusion: Champion and ensure equality, diversity, and inclusion within the Engineering & Strategic Asset Management team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • GCSEs Grade A-C or equivalent in Maths, English, and Sciences.
  • NVQ and/or qualification in a relevant field.
Experience
  • Experience in railway control and operations methodologies.
  • Experience working with Network Rail and Train Operating Companies.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the Rail industry.
  • Knowledge of DRS T&RS and network.
Skills And Attributes
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Planning and organizational skills.
  • Accuracy in working with data.
  • IT skills: Microsoft Office, Maintenance Management Systems, Q Pulse.
