Job description

Asset Controller - Carlisle

Job Purpose

To manage DRS assets, including Cars and DRS Traction & Rolling Stock (T&RS), on the rail network for planned and remedial maintenance. The goal is to ensure minimum disruption to service delivery and to act as the liaison between Operations and Engineering.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Resource Planning: Diagram resource plans for Locos, Wagons, and Cars, optimizing assets to meet business requirements.
  2. Maintenance Coordination: Review maintenance and exam plans with Operations Planning and Fleet Planners. Coordinate transfer moves to ensure maintenance is carried out within the scheduled window.
  3. Operational Efficiency: Liaise with Fleet Planners and Operations Planning to coordinate Maintenance Plans and Business Delivery Plans, driving efficiencies in T&RS management.
  4. Peak Utilization: Identify peak utilization periods across fleets to minimize maintenance impact on service delivery.
  5. Communication: Maintain effective communication channels between Operations Planning and Fleet Planners for pre-notification of urgent maintenance needs.
  6. Service Disruption: Collaborate with the Operations Control Team to reduce service disruptions during operational incidents.
  7. Maintenance Moves: Serve as the point of contact for all maintenance move requirements, including depot transfers and test runs.
  8. KPI Input: Contribute to KPIs measuring fleet availability and reliability, aligned with NTS’s IBP KPIs.
  9. T&RS Allocation: Manage DRS traction and rolling stock allocation.
  10. Car Plan Management: Manage and be the main contact for the weekly Car Plan.
  11. Cultural Principles: Embody the principles of Freedom, Helpfulness, and Drive.
  12. Equality and Inclusion: Promote and ensure diversity, equality, and inclusion within the team.
Person Specification

Qualifications: GCSEs Grade A-C in Maths, English, and Sciences; NVQ or relevant qualification.

Experience: Railway control and operations experience; familiarity with Network Rail and Train Operating Companies.

Knowledge: Rail industry knowledge; understanding of DRS T&RS and network.

Skills and Attributes: Excellent communication, initiative, teamwork, planning, and organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office, Maintenance Management Systems, Q Pulse.

Training: Fire, Manual Handling, Core DRS Line Management; Q-Pulse, MS Word/Excel; Maintenance Management System; Health and Safety/Security/Environment; Asbestos Awareness.

Additional Information

Security Level: Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Willingness to travel. Flexible working approach. Duties may vary within role scope.

The post holder must undertake any reasonable duties, with work location subject to discussion with the line manager.
