Job description

SP Electricity North West manages and invests in the power network that supplies electricity to the 2.4m homes and businesses across the North West. Our 2,400 colleagues manage the 13,000km of overhead lines, 44,000km of underground cables and thousands of electricity substations to keep power flowing and supporting green growth. We’re one of six distribution network operators in the UK and are regulated by Ofgem.

We’re proud that in December 2024 we were named Utility of the Year by Utility Week magazine who said we punched above our weight and used innovation to solve some of the industry’s most difficult challenges. Come and be part of our team and make a difference.

Now part of the Iberdrola and ScottishPower group, we’re collectively building smarter, greener electricity networks that will get Britain growing by investing in a better future, quicker.

  • Oversee the delivery of asset risk modelling and regulatory reporting, including Network Asset Resilience Measures (NARMs) and Information Gathering Plan (IGP) requirements.
  • Develop innovative approaches to capital programme optimisation, balancing investment priorities and identifying opportunities to maximise value across the network.
  • Champion the use of data science, analytics and mathematical modelling to improve business performance and support strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure asset data and information remain accurate, reliable and fit for reporting, analysis and planning purposes.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the business to develop asset management strategies, policies and long-term plans aligned to organisational objectives.
  • Represent Asset Management within digital transformation and innovation programmes, providing specialist technical expertise and analytical insight.
  • Build strong relationships with industry bodies, regulators and external stakeholders, helping to shape future asset management and regulatory practices.
  • Ensure health, safety and wellbeing considerations are embedded in asset management decision-making and team activities.
  • Act as the organisation's lead subject matter expert for asset analytics, risk modelling and data science.
  • Coach, mentor and support team members to develop their skills, achieve their goals and realise their potential.
  • Create an environment that encourages collaboration, accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Empower and motivate colleagues through clear communication, inclusive leadership and recognition of success.
  • Lead the team through change, promoting engagement, adaptability and a positive approach to new opportunities.
What you'll need:
  • Proven ability to lead, influence and improve business processes that deliver successful outcomes and support organisational goals.
  • Strong knowledge of electricity distribution networks, including operational technology, telecommunications and data systems.

  • Experience applying data science, statistical analysis, operational research, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning techniques to solve business challenges.
  • Knowledge of the energy sector and regulatory environment, with an understanding of how regulated businesses operate.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships, influence decisions and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
