Job summary

Essential Employment Ltd in Wolverhampton is seeking an Assessment and Recovery Officer on a temporary basis. The role pays £29.00 per hour PAYE and reference 8074-1.

You will assess entitlement to housing benefit and council tax support, determine liability for council tax and business rates, and pursue appropriate enforcement methods to secure repayments. You will negotiate payment arrangements and handle inquiries face-to-face, by phone and in writing, including court appearances.

Qualifications

• Experience in debt collection or benefits entitlement assessed preferred.
• Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
• Ability to handle inquiries across multiple channels including court attendance when required.

They will specialise in assessing entitlement to housing benefit and council tax support, determining liability for council tax and business rates, and selecting appropriate enforcement methods to secure sustainable repayment. The successful candidate will confidently negotiate payment arrangements, handle customer enquiries across face‑to‑face, telephone and written channels, and attend court to explain processes and agree solutions.
