Job description

Mechanical Assembly Technician – Do you have a background in Mechanics, either through work or as a hobby? If yes, then our client, part of a well-established and highly regarded scientific equipment brand manufacturer, is seeking multiple Assembly Technicians to join their company based in Ipswich, on a full-time basis.

They are a well-established and highly regarded scientific equipment brand manufacturer and supplier of research and production capital equipment, including equipment used in the fight against COVID-19. They take pride in their work and their team!

The Assembly Technician will be expected, after training, to build and test the full range of products manufactured at the Ipswich facility. The Assembly Technician will report to the Production Manager.

For successful candidates, there is a three-tier progression system supporting training and understanding of their products.

Key tasks for the Assembly Technician include:

1. Assembly of mechanical and electrical sub-systems and full product builds.
2. Testing mechanical and electrical assemblies to ensure quality standards are met.
3. Chamber and condenser assembly, including gassing/evacuation and brazing.
4. Low-level fault diagnosis and correction.
5. Movement of materials/products.
6. In-process quality inspection/testing, maintaining quality records for ISO 9001 accreditation.
7. Assisting in training other personnel on build and test processes when experienced.
8. Highlighting any defects with items received from contractors, suppliers, or other departments.
9. Meeting defined build times and quality standards for each product line.

You should be practical, with the ability to build and create using your hands and mechanical skills. Practical knowledge of production manufacturing and brazing skills are desirable but not essential.

Ideally, you will have experience in mechanical assembly within a light engineering environment. For more senior roles, machine shop experience, including reading mechanical drawings and Lean manufacturing, is preferred. Knowledge of Health and Safety, manual handling, and safety procedures is essential.

You must have an excellent eye for detail and quality awareness, be computer literate, and able to communicate effectively in English. Being a team player who can motivate colleagues, multi-task, and think flexibly are important qualities.

This is a full-time, permanent role that is physically demanding. You will need to follow all Health & Safety, PPE, and ESD procedures as per company policies. Hours are 37.5 per week: Monday 7:30 – 16:30, Tuesday – Thursday 7:30 – 16:15, and Friday 7:30 – 13:00.
