Job summary

Caudwell Marine is a pioneering UK marine engineering company shaping the future of marine propulsion with the AX300 outboard system. The Assembly Technician will play a key hands-on role in the assembly, build and testing support of the AX300 and related sub-assemblies in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will work with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and Test teams to resolve issues, drive build quality and ensure processes are followed, while maintaining 5S

Qualifications

• Hands-on mechanical/electro-mechanical assembly experience in manufacturing

Role & Responsibilities

The Assembly Technician will play a key role in the hands-on assembly, build and testing support of the AX300 outboard engine and associated systems.

Working as part of the Manufacturing team, you will be responsible for building high-quality products to defined processes and engineering standards, while taking ownership of build quality, identifying issues and supporting their resolution.

This role is suited to an experienced mechanical or electro-mechanical technician who enjoys working in a fast-paced, engineering-led environment and wants to play an active role in the development and industrialisation of a new product.

The successful candidate will be expected to work independently within their area of responsibility, while collaborating closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and Test to resolve issues and continuously improve the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities include:

• Carry out mechanical and electro-mechanical assembly of AX300 outboard engines and sub-assemblies
• Interpret and work accurately from engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions and technical documentation
• Take ownership of build quality and ensure assemblies meet defined engineering and quality standards
• Carry out engine preparation, rigging and associated activities to support in-house testing
• Use hand tools, torque tools, measuring equipment and specialist assembly equipment correctly and safely
• Perform controlled tightening and verification of critical fasteners in accordance with defined processes
• Record build data, inspection results and component traceability using MES and production systems
• Identify, investigate and report build issues, defects and process concerns
• Support root cause investigation and fault-finding activities with Engineering and Quality
• Carry out rework, rectification and controlled modification activities as required
• Assist with preparation of engines and components for internal and external testing
• Provide technical support and knowledge to Assembly Operators and less experienced team members
• Maintain high standards of quality, cleanliness and organisation (5S) within the work area
• Follow all Health & Safety procedures and actively contribute to a safe working environment
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across Assembly and Test
• Work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, Test and Supply Chain teams to resolve manufacturing issues
• Provide feedback on product design, build processes and work instructions to support product improvement
• Support the introduction of engineering changes and updated manufacturing processes
• Maintain awareness of the latest design revisions, engineering changes and process updates
• Contribute to the development and standardisation of best practice within the Assembly team

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in mechanical or electro-mechanical assembly within a manufacturing or engineering environment
• Strong practical understanding of mechanical assembly and manufacturing processes
• Experience working from engineering drawings, specifications and technical instructions
• Experience using torque tools and controlled tightening processes
• Ability to identify and troubleshoot mechanical or assembly-related issues
• Experience working within a quality-controlled manufacturing environment
• Automotive, marine, aerospace, motorsport or similar precision engineering background desirable
• Familiarity with MES, ERP or production tracking systems beneficial

Qualifications

• Relevant hands-on industry experience in mechanical, electro-mechanical or precision assembly
• Apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds or similar qualification in Mechanical, Marine, Automotive or Engineering discipline favourable
• Relevant technical qualifications or demonstrable equivalent experience considered
