Job summary

Pertemps Education Network is seeking a Pastoral & Learning Support Assistant in Reading to support students with social, emotional and mental health needs. The role runs term-time only, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:00pm, with a daily rate of £88–£115 and start ASAP.

This is an excellent opportunity for psychology graduates to gain practical experience in restorative and trauma‑informed approaches, while exploring a career in educational psychology or related therapeutic roles.

Qualifications

• Passion for supporting young people with SEMH needs.
• Graduates in Psychology or Criminology are welcome.
• Willing to work term-time and commit to a structured schedule.

Responsibilities

• Build positive, trusting relationships with students who are disengaged or at risk of exclusion.
• Support students’ social, emotional, and mental health development.
• Encourage engagement, confidence, and resilience in learning.
• Work alongside teachers and therapists to deliver therapeutic interventions and SEMH-focused support.
• Provide consistency and safety for students with trauma or adverse childhood experiences.
• Model empathy, restorative approaches, and resilience every day.
