Are you motivated by supporting and helping vulnerable children?
Do you know your reasons for wanting to work in the SEND and Mental Health Sectors?
GSL are looking for Learning Support Assistants to support children with challenging behaviour profiles deriving from their possible difficulties to socialise, emotional and/or mental health difficulties/traumas. Some children/young people you will be supporting will have suffered adverse childhood experiences, and you will help identify their risks and support their needs – escalating to senior staff when necessary.
You will join a friendly, energetic, and creative team. Working within a children’s mental health, trauma, and/or neurodivergent provision is challenging, but together, we will help you identify and focus on the right sectors for your career.
A passion to aid the learning of young people with SEMH through creative, visual, practical, and academic approaches is essential!
The school in Wandsworth prefers graduates of social science, youth studies, psychology, criminology, or similar fields but will consider non-graduates if they demonstrate sincerity, compassion, enthusiasm, and inspiration.
Since some children may share personal information when trusting you, your reactions must align with the Keeping Children Safe in Education policy. We can assist you with this training if needed. Listening empathetically to children who share their experiences is crucial to building trust before focusing on their learning.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and work closely with therapists, which is valuable for those aspiring to become psychotherapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, or speech and language therapists.
Many children with special educational needs face marginalisation, trauma, family issues, low attainment, and stigma, which create barriers in their lives. Your role will be to provide consistency, safety, and tools to empower children and young people to succeed.
