Job summary

Dunbeg Primary School and Early Learning Centre in Oban is recruiting two ASN Assistants to support children with additional learning needs. You will provide individual and small-group support, helping children engage in learning and school life while promoting independence and inclusion.

Working term-time with a supportive team, you will collaborate with teachers to implement agreed strategies, assist with routines, and help with personal care where needed.

Qualifications

• PVG Membership required.
• Patient, caring and approachable with a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs.
• Good communication, reliability and a flexible approach.

Dunbeg Primary School and Early Learning Centre is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, caring and committed ASN Support Worker to join our friendly and experienced team.

Dunbeg Primary School and Early Learning Centre is situated in a beautiful coastal location, just outside Oban, and benefits from wonderful surroundings which provide a wealth of opportunities for learning both within and beyond the school grounds. Our extensive grounds include a large forest area which is regularly used to support outdoor learning, exploration, creativity and play.

The wider Dunbeg area provides an equally inspiring environment for our children. With beautiful beaches, woodland and the historic Dunstaffnage Castle nearby, there are many opportunities to make connections with our local environment, community, history and natural world.

At Dunbeg, you will be joining a supportive, welcoming and highly experienced staff team who work closely together to provide high-quality learning experiences and positive outcomes for our children. As an ASN Support Worker, you will work as part of the wider school and Early Years and Childcare team to support children and young people with additional support needs in their learning, development, wellbeing and participation.

You will provide individual and small-group support, helping children to engage positively in learning and school life while promoting independence, confidence and inclusion. Support may be provided across a range of indoor and outdoor learning experiences and will be tailored to the individual needs of each child.

The role will involve working closely with teaching and Early Years staff to implement agreed support strategies and approaches, assisting children with routines and transitions, supporting communication and social interaction, and helping children to access learning activities successfully. You may also support children with aspects of personal care and wellbeing where this forms part of their individual support needs.

A key part of the role will be developing warm, consistent and trusting relationships with children while providing calm, patient and responsive support. You will contribute to creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment in which every child feels valued and is supported to achieve their potential.

We are looking for someone who is patient, positive, caring and approachable, with a genuine interest in supporting children with additional support needs. You should be able to build respectful relationships with children, work effectively as part of a team and contribute positively to the wider life of the school and Early Learning Centre.

Good communication skills, reliability and a flexible approach are important, along with a commitment to promoting inclusion, wellbeing, dignity and positive outcomes for every child. Experience of supporting children or young people with additional support needs would be advantageous.
