Job summary

NHS Scotland invites applications for the Aseptic Technical Manager role at St John’s Hospital. This Band 6, 1.0 WTE post offers 37 hours per week on a permanent basis, with weekend/evening/public holiday commitments.

You will lead the aseptic pharmacy team and work closely with the Aseptic Leadership Team to ensure high-quality patient care. The role focuses on day-to-day management, service development, and professional growth within the SJH pharmacy department.

Qualifications

• Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
• National Certificate in Pharmacy Services and Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
• HN unit: Procedures for Pharmacy Dispensary Checking Technicians or Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician Award.

Responsibilities

• Lead the aseptic service and day-to-day management of Aseptic Services at St John’s Hospital.
• Collaborate with the Aseptic Leadership Team and NHS Lothian Pharmacy services to deliver high quality aseptic medicines.

About the Role:

This post is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to join our friendly aseptic pharmacy team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to coordinate and lead the team in liaison with Aseptic Accountable Pharmacist. This role will:

• Play a key role in the day-to-day management and continued development of Aseptic Services at St John’s Hospital.
• Working alongside the Aseptic Leadership Team across NHS Lothian Pharmacy services to provide and lead high quality pharmaceutical services to NHS Lothian patients.
• Collaborate closely with the Cancer Services pharmacy team, to support development, implementation and review of services for aseptic medicines provided to patients.

About You:

We are looking for someone who:

• Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• Hold a National Certificate in Pharmacy Services and Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
• Completed the HN unit: Procedures for Pharmacy Dispensary Checking Technicians or Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician Award (provided by Buttercups or NPA, 2019 or before)
• Candidates are expected to hold a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Pharmacy Services Development and Management. However, individuals who do not possess this qualification but can demonstrate equivalent professional experience may also be considered. In such instances, a Mapping Assessment Form must be completed and submitted as part of the application process. Applicants who are shortlisted will receive detailed guidance, including instructions and timelines, for completing and submitting this documentation (copies are included with the Job Description and Person Specification with this advert).
• Hold a recognised work-based assessor’s certificate. (If a certificate has not already been achieved, it is required to be obtained within 24 months of starting in the position.)
