Job summary

Academics in Reading is seeking an ASD Assistant to support a specialist secondary SEN school. The role offers hands‑on experience with students with ASD and additional needs, ideal for graduates aiming for psychology, therapy, or teaching careers.

You will deliver 1:1 and small-group support, assist communication and emotional regulation, and help build confidence and independence, working with teachers to foster a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Psychology graduate with hands‑on experience in supporting young people with ASD and SEN.
• Strong communication and relationship building skills are essential.
• A genuine interest in ASD, SEN, psychology, or education.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with ASD.
• Support communication, emotional regulation, confidence and independence.
• Build positive relationships and encourage engagement in learning.
• Work alongside teachers and SEN staff to create a supportive environment.
• Monitor students' wellbeing, behaviour and progress.
