Job description

  • Art Teacher sought by a mixed secondary school in Cambridge
  • Opportunity to teach and inspire pupils through creative and practical learning
  • Join a school that values artistic expression, experimentation and individual development
The Role

Our client is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and imaginative Art Teacher to join its secondary school in Cambridge. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative educator who enjoys encouraging pupils to explore their ideas, develop technical skills and communicate their thoughts through visual art and design.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging Art lessons across the relevant key stages, introducing pupils to a range of materials, processes, artists and artistic traditions. You will help students develop their drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed-media and three-dimensional skills where appropriate, while encouraging them to experiment with techniques and develop their own creative approaches.

An important part of the role will be supporting pupils in understanding the creative process, from initial research and observational drawing through experimentation, refinement and final outcomes. You will encourage students to evaluate their work thoughtfully, respond constructively to feedback and build portfolios that demonstrate their progress and individual development.

The school is looking for someone who can create an inclusive and stimulating learning environment in which pupils feel confident taking creative risks and learning from mistakes. You will differentiate activities to accommodate different abilities, assess work consistently and provide guidance that helps students improve their practical skills and artistic understanding.

There may also be opportunities to contribute to art exhibitions, displays, enrichment projects and wider creative initiatives across the school.

About the School

Located in Cambridge, this mixed secondary school is committed to offering pupils a broad curriculum that supports academic progress, personal growth and the development of individual talents. The school recognises the importance of creative subjects in helping students develop confidence, visual literacy, independent thinking and the ability to communicate ideas in different ways.

Art education gives pupils the opportunity to explore their surroundings, learn about influential artists and develop an understanding of different cultures, materials and creative techniques. The school aims to encourage pupils to approach their work with curiosity and perseverance while developing the practical skills needed to produce thoughtful and imaginative outcomes.

The successful candidate will join a community that values committed teachers and recognises the contribution of creative education to the wider student experience. The school seeks staff who are enthusiastic about their subject and willing to contribute positively to departmental planning and school life.

Ideal Candidate
  • An Art Teacher able to teach the relevant secondary curriculum.
  • QTS, a PGCE or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Strong practical skills and subject knowledge across a range of artistic techniques and media.

  • A passion for encouraging creativity, independent thinking and artistic confidence.
  • The legal right to work in the UK.
