Job summary

Choice Teachers is seeking a dedicated Art Teacher for a secondary school in Wigan. The position starts in September 2026 and will run long-term to cover maternity leave. You will plan, deliver and assess high-quality Art lessons, supporting pupil progress and behaviour throughout the placement.

The ideal candidate is confident, creative and able to engage students while maintaining high standards of teaching and safety in practical sessions.

Qualifications

  • PGCE with QTS or QTLS is required.
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain a new one.
  • Two satisfactory professional references.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Previous experience teaching Art at secondary-school level.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality Art lessons.
  • Mark and assess students' work, providing constructive feedback.
  • Monitor student progress and adapt lessons where required.
  • Use creative and interactive teaching methods to encourage participation.
  • Support students with additional needs, including those with social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Maintain effective classroom and behaviour management.
  • Promote high expectations for achievement, behaviour and creativity.
  • Follow all relevant health and safety procedures during practical activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and follow the school's assessment and reporting procedures.

Art Teacher - Wigan - September 2026 Start - Easter 2027

Choice Teachers are recruiting a full-time Art Teacher on behalf of a secondary school in Wigan. The position will start in September 2026 and is expected to continue on a long-term basis to cover maternity leave.

The successful candidate will take full responsibility for the role, including planning, delivering lessons, marking and assessing students' work. We are looking for a confident and creative Art Teacher who can engage students and maintain high standards of teaching and behaviour.

Requirements:
  • A teaching qualification - PGCE with QTS or QTLS
  • Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain a new one
  • Two satisfactory professional references
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Previous experience teaching Art at secondary-school level
Key Responsibilities:
