Job summary

Pleckgate High School invites applications for a full-time, permanent Art Teacher from 1 January 2027. You will develop syllabuses, plan lessons, and contribute to curriculum and CPD while maintaining high standards and engaging with students and parents.

The role requires a degree in art, QTS, and proven ability to deliver high-quality art education across all key stages with a focus on assessment and adaptability.

Qualifications

• Qualified to degree level in an art-based subject or adequate post degree conversion course.
• Qualified Teacher Status.
• Ability to deliver high-quality art lessons to pupils of all ages and abilities.
• Experience teaching art across Key Stages with good outcomes.
• Knowledge of art curriculum requirements and related developments.
• Be a well-qualified art specialist.
• Experience designing engaging learning opportunities in art.
• Strong ability to assess pupil progress and adapt learning accordingly.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development of syllabuses, resources, schemes of work and teaching strategies.
• Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
• Support curriculum development and staff CPD within the department.
• Participate in staff development and training.
• Monitor and evaluate the art area as per Academy procedures.
• Contribute to curriculum, organization and pastoral activities.
• Maintain accurate records for MIS, registers and reports.
• Communicate effectively with parents as appropriate.

The Job

Pleckgate High School seek to appoint an Art Teacher on a full time and permanent contract from 1st January 2027.

What does this job do?

• To assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the subject area.
• To plan and prepare courses and lessons.
• To assist the Subject Leader to ensure that the curriculum area provides a range of teaching which complements the Academy’s Strategic Objectives.
• To take part in the Academy’s staff development programme by participating in arrangements for further training and professional development.
• To contribute to the process of monitoring and evaluation of the subject area in line with agreed Academy procedures, including evaluation against quality standards and performance criteria.
• To take part, as may be required, in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the Academy.
• To maintain appropriate records and to provide relevant accurate and up-to-date information for Management Information Systems (MIS), registers etc.
• To communicate effectively with the parents of pupils as appropriate.

• Have an excellent understanding of how to assess pupils progress and make adaptations to the learning experience to allow all pupils to be successful.
• Be able to demonstrate support offered to pupils that struggle with aspects of art.
• Be passionate about the teaching of art and knowledgeable of art pedagogy.
• Contribute to the continuous development of the curriculum that is responsive to the needs of pupils in our school.
• Contribute to departmental CPD in order that all pupils receive a consistent, high-quality teaching experience in the department.
