Job description

We are looking for an organised, practical and customer-focused Art Shop Technican to join Technical Services within the College of Arts, Technology and Environment at City Campus. This Grade D role supports teaching, learning and research by helping ensure our shop, materials and processes operate smoothly and effectively for students, staff and the wider technical team.

In this role, you will support the day-to-day running of the Arts Shop - you will prepare materials for students, support routine operational procedures, and contribute to a positive and well-organised customer experience for users of the Art Shop and associated systems.

You will provide advice and support to staff and students, both verbally and in writing, helping them make effective and appropriate use of materials, tools and equipment. You will also support stock ordering, storage and control of materials and consumables, undertake routine maintenance and defect reporting, and contribute to efficient administration across the service - including assisting with the administration and logistics required for events and exhibitions. You will also help maintain safe working practices through cleaning, preparation, specialist waste management and appropriate escalation of issues.

As part of the wider Technical Services team, you will contribute to an inclusive, collaborative and continuously improving service. You will be expected to engage in professional development, keep up to date with relevant technical and health and safety requirements, and support the development of the technical department for the benefit of students and staff.

You will have demonstrable experience of delivering excellent customer experience in a retail environment, with a good working knowledge of physical and digital retail systems. You will be able to provide advice and guidance on appropriate materials and equipment, while helping maintain a welcoming and safe environment for users of the facility.

You will be organised, approachable and practical, with a commitment to safe working, inclusive practice and good service. You will enjoy supporting students and staff, contributing to smooth day-to-day operations, and working as part of a technical team that values collaboration, improvement and professional development

A qualification in a technical or practical field, such as certification or GCSE equivalent, would be desirable.
