Job description

West Somerset College is an all-inclusive college for students aged 13 to 18, located on the edge of the breathtaking Exmoor National Park. We are proud of our commitment to providing a high-quality, well-rounded education, and we are now looking to appoint a passionate and organised Art and Food Technician to support our creative and practical curriculum.

Part-time, 15 hours per week (3 hours per day). 39 weeks per year (term time plus inset days). Salary: Band 4, points 5-6. Actual starting salary: £8,568 per annum.

About the Role:

This is a vital role supporting both the Art and Food departments. The successful candidate will assist teaching staff by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and supporting students during practical lessons. You will help ensure that our learning environments are safe, well-organised, and inspiring. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Prepare materials and resources for practical lessons in Art and Food.
    Maintain cleanliness and safety of practical areas, including equipment and tools.
  • Assist with displays of students artwork and coursework.
    Support students and staff during lessons, ensuring smooth lesson delivery.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels, placing orders as required.

We re Looking For:

  • Someone who is organised, proactive and able to manage your time across two busy departments.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to learn new skills.
  • An interest or background in Art, Food Technology, or Design & Technology (desirable but not essential).
  • A commitment to supporting students and contributing to a positive learning environment.
  • An understanding of health and safety within a school setting (training will be provided).
