As part of the largest local authority in Scotland, Education Services is one of the five services within Glasgow City Council, responsible for the teaching and learning of approximately 80,000 children and young people across nursery, primary, secondary, and additional support needs sectors.
The Head of Service will lead the development and delivery of service excellence across schools within a defined geographical area. This leadership role is crucial in achieving the council's aims and ensuring every child and young person receives high-quality education.
Responsibilities include leading, developing, and implementing strategic initiatives to raise attainment and achievement, especially for those experiencing deprivation. The role involves driving quality improvement initiatives within the Primary sector and fostering continuous improvement and excellence.
As a senior management team member, you will work to improve outcomes for children and young people in Glasgow, aligning resources with the council’s commitment to improving school performance and reducing the attainment gap.
Candidates must demonstrate an in-depth understanding of education services and have a proven track record of senior leadership in strategic service management.
The ideal candidate will bring leadership, energy, vision, and stakeholder management skills. They should be innovative, dynamic, and focused on driving service improvements to meet council objectives.
A passion for ensuring high-quality education for Glasgow’s children and young people is essential, providing them with skills for learning, life, and work.
Qualifications include at least a degree in a relevant discipline and eligibility for registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme is required upon appointment, along with eligibility for registration with GTCS and SSSC. Successful candidates will need to pay for PVG membership or scheme checks. This post is politically restricted under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
