Area Field Operations Manager - Construction

Location: Area-based (field role)

Covering Wolverhampton - Peterborough - Cambridge (Midlands)

Hours: 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday, with flexibility required based on business needs)

Reports to: Regional Field Operations Manager / Support Centre Manager

About Our Client

Our client is the UK's premier and most trusted offloading, precision positioning and logistics company, and an award-winning specialist partner to the construction industry. Based in Basingstoke, their teams deliver with real care on every project - safely and accurately positioning kitchen, bedroom and bathroom furniture into new homes, on time and to an exceptional standard. Their reputation is built on reliability, attention to detail and the strength and teamwork of their people. They also work in the FF&E sector, providing on-site services including assembly, site supervision and logistics support.

About the Role

This is a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground leadership role for someone who thrives out on site, not behind a desk. As Area Field Operations Manager, you'll take full ownership of operational delivery across your area - planning the work, leading teams of subcontractors and employed offloaders, and driving performance, compliance and safety on live construction sites every single day. When a site needs sorting, you're the person who makes it happen. If you know your way around construction sites, lead from the front, and get a buzz from keeping a fast-paced operation running like clockwork, this is the role for you.

Key Responsibilities
Work allocation
  • Liaise with customers as required.
  • Plan and allocate work for offloaders in your area, and other areas when needed.
  • Lead and manage teams of self-employed and employed offloaders in a fast-paced site environment.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with all offloading procedures.
  • Achieve performance targets for all offloaders.
  • Operate your area in line with budgetary and forecasting requirements.
  • Conduct audits on construction sites and vehicles.
  • Prepare for allocated work with advance checks (e.g. site visits, Google Maps, contacting site managers and drivers).
  • Respond to and resolve any construction site issues during unloading.
  • Ensure adequate resource coverage for allocated work, including during sickness or absence.
  • Record lateness and absence, and inform Area Field Operations accordingly.
  • Build strong working relationships with construction site managers.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and ensure completion by unloading teams.
  • Train unloaders and keep accurate training records.
  • Investigate customer complaints and service issues, providing follow-up and feedback.
  • Submit feedback and reports, and complete weekly grading of unloaders.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and reviews (Zoom, conference calls or in person).
  • Complete any other reasonable tasks as requested by Senior Management or the Support Centre Manager.
  • Ensure photographic evidence is taken for all completed jobs.
  • Attend prearranged construction sites to supervise unloading activities.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health and safety procedures.
  • Complete inductions and training, both online and on-site.
  • Organise and lead local teams to unload kitchens and appliances into the correct new homes.
  • Work collaboratively with the support centre team when required.
  • A sound grounding in construction and general site working.
  • Confident leading and managing teams of subcontractors and employees in fast-paced environments.
  • Planning and scheduling.
  • Problem-solving and issue resolution.
  • Rota management and workload control.
  • Site and vehicle auditing.
  • Health & safety compliance.
  • Information gathering and reporting.
  • Experience in offloading vehicles.
Requirements
  • Valid CSCS card.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • A sound grounding in construction / general site working.
  • SSSTS or equivalent.
What's on Offer
  • A key role in an established, award-winning company operating right across the UK.
  • Genuine career progression as the business continues to grow.
  • Ongoing training and development.
