The London Archives (TLA) is a public research centre specialising in the history of London. It cares for and provides access to historical archives of various organisations from the London area, including books, maps, photographs, films, and documents dating back to 1067. With over 100 km of archives, it is considered one of the finest city archives in the world — the memory of London.
Description:
An Archives Assistant is needed to join the team at TLA, working to deadlines to provide a document retrieval service for the public. The role involves lifting and moving large quantities of boxes, volumes, and archives of other formats daily, using ladders and trolleys. The position also requires being on a rota to drive the van to collect and deliver documents to the City of London Guildhall and other locations within Greater London.
Additional duties include security tasks such as unlocking and locking the building, working at reception, liaising with the public in the public rooms, assisting with office moves, managing repository services, supporting other teams, and helping with on-site events.
A clean current driving licence, experience driving in London (or a similar major city), willingness to drive the office van, and good communication skills are essential. The role is based at LMA but may require working at other sites.
