Job summary

Barr Gazetas in London is seeking an Architect to lead projects from inception through completion, supporting the Project Lead at all stages and coordinating design teams to meet high standards.

You will develop design proposals, manage schedules and budgets, liaise with clients and consultants, attend site meetings, and ensure compliance with RIBA stages, CDM, and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • RIBA Part III qualification and registered with the RIBA/ARB.
  • Extensive knowledge of RIBA stages and construction processes.
  • Experience managing multiple projects from inception to completion.
  • Strong client liaison and contract administration understanding.
  • Awareness of CDM, health and safety, and insurance considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of detailed method statements and project briefs.
  • Develop design proposals for client presentations and approvals.
  • Create project plans with timescales, scope, costs and resources.
  • Lead internal design teams and coordinate external consultants.
  • Interface with clients and ensure stakeholders are kept up to date.
  • Prepare information production schedules and manage production.
  • Attend site visits, review construction progress, and report issues.
  • Support smooth handover to client and ensure compliance with regulations.

Job description

OVERVIEW
Summary

The Architect is responsible for and manages all aspects of projects from inception through to completion and supports the Project Lead at all stages of a project.

Hours

Full-time (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday)

Responsible for

Reporting to

Project Lead & Leadership Team where appropriate

RESPONSIBILITIES
Design & Project
  • Assist in preparation of a detailed method statement for each project for approval by the relevant Project Director.
  • Assist the Project Lead in developing the design proposals for presentation to the client.
  • Develop project plans, define the project with clear timescales, scope, costs and resource requirements for delivery on time and within budget.
  • Assist the Project Lead in setting up the internal project team and manage the team within pre-agreed programme and cost parameters.
  • Co-ordinate external consultants as necessary.
  • Act as client interface on projects when appropriate.
  • Ensure all relevant stakeholders and team members are kept up-to-date on project developments and changes.
  • Assist in the collection of the client brief and prepare the project briefing documents.
  • Assist in preparation of design and production information programmes, allocate work to team members.
  • Prepare and manage the information production schedule for the projects.
  • Take responsibility or assist with all aspects of the projects technical information.
  • Set agendas and run regular internal and external design team meetings.Attend site meetings.
  • Monday Morning Meetings contribution.
  • Monitor construction work on site.
  • Assist to ensure smooth hand over of project to client.
  • Report key project issues to Project Lead on a regular basis.
  • Carry out site/building appraisals as required.
General Office
  • Follow company policies and procedures and discharge your professional duties according to the RIBA & ARB Professional Code of Conduct and the Practice’s vision, values and strategy.
  • Represent the Practice and positively enhance its reputation.
  • Create and maintain a positive working environment for all staff.
  • Be an ambassador at all times and an expert in our core work.
  • Attend CPDs on a regular basis and maintain an up to date CPD record.
  • Maintain an accurate record of all meetings and actions.
  • Attend internal and external meetings, presentations and committee meetings.
  • Represent the Practice at all levels, especially client liaison.
  • Comply with the Practice Health and Safety Policy.
  • Comply with CDM regulations whilst on site.
  • Keep accurate timesheets and submit them in a timely manner.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience & Qualifications
  • RIBA Part III qualification.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of all RIBA stages.
  • Experience of running more than one project simultaneously from inception to completion.
  • An understanding of clients’ requirements and experience of client liaison.
  • An understanding of Practice issues in relation to legal and commercial, health and safety, CDM, and insurance in relation to the office and staff.
  • A good understanding of employment law and best practice in relation to managing staff.
  • Experience of managing construction contracts.
  • Excellent knowledge of current legislation, standards, building technologies, environmental design and construction methods.

  • Good understanding of contract administration knowledge and application.

IT & Software
  • Highly IT literate.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD software and the Practice CAD Manual.
  • Excellent knowledge of BIM and Revit software.
  • Good knowledge of graphic presentations (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator etc).
