Job summary

AHR Architects Ltd in Birmingham/ Shrewsbury is seeking an ambitious Architect to join our Midlands team. You will design and develop buildings, communicate concepts through 3D models and drawings, and collaborate with clients and colleagues.

ARB registration, BIM knowledge, and strong attention to detail are essential. The role offers hybrid working, opportunities for career progression, and a supportive studio environment close to transport links.

Qualifications

  • ARB registered Architect.
  • Commercial and contractual awareness, including relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Advanced knowledge of SketchUp, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and other digital imaging tools.
  • Good knowledge of Autodesk Revit (BIM Author requirements).
  • Routine use of Newforma Project Center for managing email, creating, issuing and preserving documents.
  • Routine use of 'AHR Projects' to view AHR's roles, deliverables and programme.
  • Good levels of self-organisation, with the ability to plan, organise and manage workflows.
  • Able to work collaboratively and effectively as a team member and with minimum supervision.
  • Critical thinking, with the ability to inspire and motivate the team members.
  • Able to work under reasonable work-related pressure and maintain excellent attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Be an effective team member. Understand where your skillset fits within the team and collaborate with your team mates to achieve best outcomes for the project.
  • Take receipt of a brief from an AHR Manager and with limited intervention from them, develop it into a design in line with the RIBA Plan of Work.
  • Contribute to and help co-ordinate the development of AHR's Pre-Construction Information in line with the RIBA Plan of Work and AHR's Deliverables and DRM.
  • Achieve efficient and effective design solutions using robust and sustainable design solutions.
  • Prepare compliant designs by following UK Construction Law, British Standards and relevant CoPs.
  • Choose or advise on material selection. Respect the limited availability of natural resources when making design decisions. Consider design life and durability.
  • Author specifications using AHR's NBS Masters. Source and evidence supporting and up-to-date technical information from manufacturers.
  • Assist the Project Team with designing to a budget. On instruction, assist with value-engineering.
  • Participate in Project Reviews and coordination workshops.
  • Undertake proper and sufficient checking of self-authored information prior to forwarding to the Project Lead for approval.
  • Assist in gathering and preparing information required to support statutory submissions, such as Planning, Building Regulations and Building Safety Gateways.
  • Negotiate with statutory bodies, write reports and complete statutory submissions (planning applications / Gateway submissions / building regulations etc)
  • Attend meetings and workshops with Clients, Designers, Contractors, and other Specialists. Formally record issues / actions that affect AHR’s scope.
  • Start to develop and maintain a network of professional contacts
  • Support the Contractor in troubleshooting problems associated with the design
  • Support the Project Lead with the maintenance of the Design Risk Registers
  • Use Document Control on your project(s) in line with AHR Protocols

We have an exciting opportunity for an Architect to join our creative and friendly Midlands team, working from either our Birmingham or Shrewsbury studio.

About You

An ambitious Architect who is keen to grow in a busy studio. You will possess an innovative approach to design, with strong visualisation skills and an awareness of design style.Be capable of precisely communicating concepts to technical and non-technical audiences using 3D models, drawings, written text and oral presentations. You will have both design and technical skills, be fluent in problem solving and have a strong eye for detail.

The Role

You will be responsible for planning and designing buildings and land areas with regard to functional and aesthetic requirements, budgets and timescales. Within this role, it is important to maintain effective working relationships, understand where your skillset fits within the team and collaborate with colleagues to achieve the best outcomes for the project.

Your Skills and Experience
  • ARB registered Architect
