Job summary

McGonigle McGrath in Belfast currently seeks an experienced Architect to provide maternity leave cover for one year (Dec 2026–Dec 2027), full-time. The role involves overseeing multiple projects across RIBA stages, with on-site responsibilities and potential extension.

You will lead the design process, collaborate with clients, engineers and construction teams, and ensure high-quality delivery in line with the practice ethos. UK experience and on-site job running are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Qualified Architect with UK registration

Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced Architect to join our team to provide maternity leave cover, and to work across a variety of projects in our Belfast studio. The position is full-time and the contract will last for one year, from December 2026 - December 2027. The length of the contract may be extended or made permanent, subject to workload and performance review.

In this role you will be responsible for overseeing a number of projects at varying RIBA stages. A selection of jobs are currently on site and will require you to step into the role of contract administrator. You will oversee the design process, ensuring the highest quality of architectural design and delivery within the ethos and strategic objectives of the practice. You will collaborate closely with clients, engineers, cost consultants and construction teams, providing leadership while maintaining a considered approach to design. This role requires a deep understanding of architecture, materials, and construction, along with strong leadership and project management skills. Previous experience of bespoke domestic projects and on-site job running is advantageous.

There will be a structured handover period with the Architect transitioning to maternity leave and ongoing support will be provided by the wider team.
