Job summary

Cheshire East Council is seeking an Arborist to join the Arboriculture team on a full-time basis (37 hours per week) to undertake a range of tree works in parks, open spaces, and sites for commercial contracts. There is potential to build qualifications and a market supplement may apply.

The role requires a full UK driving licence, knowledge of arboricultural practices, CS30/CS31/CS38/CS39 or equivalent qualifications, and certification to operate a Woodchipper, with a strong emphasis on health

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence (B+E or C1+E trailer entitlement desirable).
  • Good base knowledge of tree species identification and arboricultural operations.
  • Lantra or NPTC CS30, CS31, CS38 and CS39 qualifications or equivalent (CS32/CS40/CS41/CS47 and Mewp desirable).
  • Certified to operate a Woodchipper.
  • Knowledge of working at height regulations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Flexible and can-do attitude.
  • Emergency at work first aid qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out arboricultural works across the borough, ensuring safe, effective practice including work at height and ground-based operations.
  • Safely climb trees regularly using climbing aids and work at height with confidence.
  • Use appropriate safety and climbing equipment in line with safety guidelines.
  • Complete site-specific risk assessments and maintain health and safety standards.
  • Deploy, operate and maintain vehicles, machinery, and equipment safely.
  • Respond to scheduled and ad hoc tree works as required.
  • Work at any site within Cheshire East Borough as needed.
  • Follow council policies, risk assessments and safe working practices.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has become available to work as an Arborist within the Arboriculture team. The position is for 1 FTE (37 hours) per week.

About you

You will be committed to providing an effective frontline service to the residents of Cheshire East in a courteous and professional manner. You will be expected to undertake a variety of tree works both in the parks and open spaces maintained by the council as well as sites relating to commercial contracts. For the right applicant, there is the possibility of obtaining further qualifications to build a successful career in this speciality, benefitting the individual and the council. The successful candidate will have:

As a professional Arborist, you will assist in the provision of the Arborist team by:
  • Carrying out arboricultural works across the borough, ensuring that work is always carried out effectively and safely. This will include working at height and ground-based operations.
  • Safely climbing trees regularly using a variety of climbing aids and systems, and to be confident and capable to work at height.
  • Using full safety and climbing equipment in an approved manner and in accordance with current safety guidelines and industry best practice.
  • Demonstrating good health & safety practices such as the completion of site-specific risk assessments.
  • Deploy, operate, and maintain vehicles, machinery, and equipment safely and in an effective manner.
  • Providing an effective response to scheduled and ad hoc tree works that will vary on a day-to-day basis.
  • Being prepared to work at any site located within the Cheshire East Borough.
  • Working in a safe and efficient manner following Ansa's policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe working practices.
  • Content in working outside in all weather conditions.
  • Completing all relevant documentation and records (handwritten and electronic) in a timely and comprehensive manner in line with agreed policies and procedures.
