Job summary

Lanes Group is seeking experienced Tree Climbers for vegetation management projects on the TfL rail network. This hands-on role requires safe climbing, rigging, and compliance with railway safety standards on site in Hillingdon.

Responsibilities include tree dismantling, clearance, and maintenance along the railway, with risk assessments and equipment operation. Night and weekend work may be required; training is provided for additional qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Tree Climber/Arborist, ideally within the rail industry.
  • NPTC/LANTRA qualifications including CS30/201, CS31/202, CS38/206, CS39/308.
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety) / Sentinel card - essential.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (no more than 6 penalty points).
  • Additional qualifications desirable (MEWP/IPAF, Woodchipper, Brush cutter/strimmer, First Aid +F)

Responsibilities

  • Carry out climbing, aerial cutting, rigging, and tree dismantling in line with rail standards.
  • Deliver vegetation clearance, tree felling, and maintenance along the railway.
  • Work safely within the TfL environment, following all Rule Book and Sentinel requirements.
  • Operate and maintain climbing and chainsaw equipment to rail standards.
  • Complete daily risk assessments, inspections, and safety briefings.
  • Support ground operations, including rope work and timber processing.
  • Work flexibly, including nights, weekends, and during rail possessions.

Job description

After more than 30 years delivering safe, reliable solutions to the rail sector, we are excited to announce that we have been awarded the Vegetation Maintenance contract for the Transport for London (TfL) network—strengthening our commitment to maintaining a safe and accessible rail environment for millions of passengers.

We are looking for experienced Tree Climbers to join our team working on vegetation management projects, this is a hands-on role carrying out tree works in a rail environment, requiring safe climbing and rigging techniques as well as strict adherence to railway safety standards.

  • Location: Hillingdon
  • Employment Type: Full time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Tree Climber/Arborist, ideally within the rail industry.
  • NPTC/LANTRA qualifications, including:
    • Chainsaw maintenance & cross cutting (CS30/201)
    • Felling small trees (CS31/202)
    • Aerial tree rescue (CS38/206 & 306)
    • Aerial cutting with a chainsaw using free-fall techniques (CS39/308)
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety) / Sentinel card - essential.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (no more than 6 penalty points).
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety and environmental legislation.
  • Additional qualifications desirable- if you don’t currently possess these qualifications, we will provide the training.
