Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Conduct BS5837 surveys for development and planning.
• Perform tree risk assessments and veteran tree surveys.
• Investigate decayed trees and provide technical recommendations.
• Develop surveying skills and consultancy experience across sites and projects.
• Identify trees and assess condition; map digitally and report findings.
• Produce Arboricultural Impact Assessments and Method Statements.
• Liaise with clients and stakeholders on project requirements.
• Utilise PiCUS tomography and microdrilling for specialist assessments.

AWA Tree Consultants is looking for a new Arboricultural Consultant / Trainee Consultant to join our friendly and growing team in Sheffield.

We’re open-minded about experience. You might already be working in arboricultural consultancy and looking for your next step, have practical tree or surveying experience and want to move into consultancy, or be a graduate/early-career environmental professional looking to build a career working with trees.

Salary: £27,000–£33,000 depending on experience. Full-time, permanent.

The work is varied, covering BS5837 surveys for development and planning, tree risk assessments, veteran tree surveys and detailed investigations of potentially decayed trees. You’ll work across a wide range of sites and projects, developing both practical surveying skills and technical consultancy experience.

Depending on experience, the role will include tree identification and condition assessment, digital surveying and mapping, technical report writing, Arboricultural Impact Assessments and Method Statements, client liaison and specialist tree assessment using equipment including PiCUS tomography and microdrilling.

There isn’t one particular route into the role. You might have studied arboriculture or forestry, but we’d also be interested in people from ecology, environmental science, countryside management, geography or another related environmental discipline.

We’re looking for someone with a genuine interest in trees and the natural environment who enjoys outdoor work, communicates well, is organised and keen to learn, and holds a full UK driving licence. Existing tree identification, surveying, consultancy, forestry or practical tree-work experience would be an advantage, but isn’t essential.
