Job summary

Fenland District Council invites applicants to join our Environmental Services team as an Apprentice Workshop Technician. You will learn to inspect, service and repair a range of vehicles and plant in a busy workshop while working toward a recognised qualification.

This 3-year programme includes college one day per week and opportunities to undertake HGV driver training, building a strong foundation for a long-term career in vehicle maintenance and engineering.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at 4/C or above.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and workshop practices to Level 2/3.
• Commitment to attending college one day per week throughout the apprenticeship.
• Ability to work safely and follow health and safety procedures.
• Good organisational and communication skills.
• Right to work in the UK.

Fenland District Council is offering an exciting opportunity to join our Environmental Services team as an Apprentice Workshop Technician. Through this structured 3 year apprenticeship programme, you will develop the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to become a qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Technician while working alongside experienced professionals in a busy workshop environment.

As part of your development, you will also have the opportunity to undertake HGV driver training, helping you build a broad range of skills to support your future career.

About The Role

Working within our established workshop team, you will learn how to inspect, service, maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide variety of vehicles, plant, and equipment, including:

• Heavy and light goods vehicles
• Refuse collection vehicles
• Sweepers
• Vans
• Plant and machinery
• Sewage treatment works and pumping station equipment

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will gain practical experience while studying towards a recognised qualification and attending college one day per week.

You Will Develop Skills In

• Vehicle servicing and repairs
• Fault finding and diagnostics
• Planned and preventative maintenance
• Vehicle inspections and compliance checks
• Safe working practices and workshop procedures

Essential Requirements
