Job summary

Summerhill Academy in Bristol is offering a Teaching Assistant apprenticeship (Level 3) to support individual pupils and groups, including those with EHCPs. You will deliver interventions, monitor progress, and communicate with staff while progressing toward HLTA or SEN support roles.

The program runs Monday to Friday with college-based study, lasting about 1 year 6 months, with SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE AND STROUD COLLEGE as the training provider. Disability Confident status is noted.

Job description

Introduction

Support children individually and in small groups including pupils with EHCPs. Deliver academic, social and emotional interventions, monitor progress, assess learning using a range of strategies, and communicate effectively. Undertake training and provide classroom support for pupils with varying abilities, including those with SEN.

What You'll Do


  • Support pupils individually, in small groups and on a 1:1 basis

  • Work with pupils who have EHCPs and additional SEN needs

  • Deliver academic, social and emotional interventions

  • Monitor and assess pupil progress using a range of strategies

  • Communicate effectively with teaching staff and other professionals

  • Undertake relevant training to support intervention delivery

  • Provide classroom support to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities

  • Help pupils achieve their full potential and engage positively in learning


Training Outcome

After a Teaching Assistant apprenticeship, you can typically progress through these stages:


Senior Support:



  • Become a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to lead classes or a Senior TA to manage staff


Specialisation:



  • Move into SEN support, Pastoral care, or Learning Mentor roles


Teacher Training:



  • Use your experience to enter a Teacher Degree Apprenticeship or a PGCE route to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)


Completion of the apprenticeship program does not automatically lead to continued employment.
