Responsibilities

• Deliver lessons with the teacher, adjusting activities to pupil responses.
• Support pupils during independent and group work, keeping them on task.

• Monitor individual and group progress and share findings with the teacher.
• Assist pupil assessment through observation, recording progress information.
• Promote inclusion, cooperation, independence and self-esteem.
• Support pupils to develop communication skills and use ICT.
• Assist with whole-class activities for short periods (e.g., story reading).
• Prepare teaching aids and resources; manage learning environment.

Job description

What the job involves

• Deliver lessons and sessions with the teacher, adjusting learning activities to pupil responses
• Support pupils during independent and group work, reinforcing objectives and keeping them on task
• Contribute to curriculum and lesson planning, delivery and evaluation
• Monitor individual and group achievement of key objectives and feed back to the teacher
• Contribute to pupil assessment through observation, reporting and recording progress information
• Promote inclusion, co-operation, independence and self-esteem among pupils
• Help pupils develop communication skills and role play
• Support pupils to use ICT in learning and build their independence with it
• Support whole-class activities for short periods, such as story reading
• Manage the learning environment, including the care and preparation of teaching aids, equipment and differentiated resources
• Carry out routine and non-routine administration, such as producing worksheets and administering coursework
• Liaise with parents, carers, specialist teachers and other professionals, sharing information
