Job summary

Leicester College is seeking an Apprentice Sports Coach to join the Sports Academy, leading the Men’s Football Academy and supporting student-athletes through the FE pathway.

You will undertake a Level 4 Sports Coach Apprenticeship while delivering coaching sessions, collaborating with the Sport Development Officer, and promoting inclusive participation across all college teams.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
  • UEFA C Diploma Coaching (FA Level 2) completed or in progress.
  • Level 3 Sport Coaching or equivalent qualification or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high‑quality football coaching sessions for the Men’s Football Academy.
  • Work with the Sport Development Officer to shape the football offer and pathways.
  • Lead development sessions addressing technical, tactical, physical and match performance.
  • Plan, deliver, evaluate and reflect on coaching sessions.
  • Support match-day preparation and performance review.
  • Promote inclusive participation and positive student engagement.

Working alongside experienced sports professionals, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality coaching sessions, supporting student-athletes to reach their potential, and contributing to the growth of our wider Sports Academy programme.

This role is ideal for an aspiring coach who wants to develop their practical coaching skills while gaining valuable experience in an educational sporting environment.

About the Role

  • As Apprentice Sports Coach, you will lead and support coaching provision within the Men's Football Academy, delivering engaging and development-focused sessions for Further Education students
  • You will work closely with the Sport Development Officer to develop the football pathway, support competitive fixtures, and help create a positive and inclusive sporting experience for all participants across the Academies
  • Alongside your day-to-day coaching responsibilities, you will undertake a Level 4 Sports Coach Apprenticeship, applying your learning directly within the role to develop your coaching knowledge, leadership skills and professional practice

Coaching Delivery

  • Plan and deliver high-quality football coaching sessions within the Men’s Football Academy (Men’s Pathway)
  • Work alongside the Sport Development Officer (SDO) to design and develop the football offer at Leicester College
  • Lead sessions that develop technical, tactical, physical and match performance
  • Take responsibility for session planning, delivery and evaluation
  • Support match-day preparation, analysis and performance review

Student Development & Engagement

  • Build positive, professional relationships with FE students
    Promote an inclusive coaching environment, ensuring all students can participate regardless of ability or background
  • Support students to engage in sport alongside their studies and promote wider participation
  • Actively promote physical activity and engagement across the College
  • Act as a positive role model, consistently demonstrating College professional values

Wider Sports Academy Contribution

  • Support the delivery of fixtures, competitions and trips across all academies and the wider Sport provision
  • Organise and lead promotional events to support recruitment and engagement
  • Positively represent Leicester College at internal and external meetings and events
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the wider Sports Academy offer

Administration, Planning & Resources

  • Accurately record attendance for training sessions and fixtures in a timely manner
  • Support the creation and scheduling of marketing and social media content to promote academy activity, results and opportunities
  • Ensure equipment and kitisregularly reviewed,maintainedand available to support effective delivery

AND such other duties as are within the scope of the spirit of the job purpose, the title of the post and its grading.
