Job summary

RM Contractors Limited is offering an Apprentice Plant Fitter position in our yard team. The role supports servicing and repair across construction plant machinery, and involves learning to maintain and inspect equipment while keeping the yard clean and safe.

The apprenticeship leads to a Level 2 qualification in Construction Equipment Maintenance. Training combines on‑the‑job learning with off‑site sessions, with travel to various Midlands and Eastern locations as required.

Qualifications

• GCSE English at grade 4/C or equivalent.
• GCSE Mathematics at grade 4/C or equivalent.
• Full UK driving licence required or equivalent.
• Willingness to travel across Midlands and Eastern regions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with servicing and repair of plant machinery.
• Assist with attending breakdowns and inspections.
• Maintain a clean and safe yard environment.
• Support apprentices in learning fitters' tasks.

Job description

Over 30 years of quality groundworks and civil engineering

We are currently seeking an Apprentice Plant Fitter to join our yard team. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to maintain a clean and tidy yard, as well as assisting with servicing and attending breakdowns and inspections across various vehicles, equipment and construction plant machinery.

The Successful Applicant will:

• English GCSE Grade 4/C, Level 2 Functional Skills, or equivalent
• Mathematics GCSE Grade 4/C, Level 2 Functional Skills, or equivalent
• A full UK driving licence
• Be willing to travel to and from various site locations across the Midlands and Eastern regions

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Maintaining high levels of Health and Safety within the yard at all times.
• Learn to service and repair machines and equipment which could include excavators, dumpers and smaller hand tools.
• Learn to service and repair road going vehicles and lifting accessories.
• Carrying out any general required maintenance.
• Collection of any related items where required.
• Ad hoc tasks as and when required.

• You’ll gain experience through both on-the-job learning and off-the-job training. Depending on the training provider, this could include college day release, online workshops, and regular assessor visits.

Package

Weekly Hours: 07:30 to 16:30 Monday - Friday (07:30 to 15:30 if under 18 years)
