Job summary

GTG Training is recruiting for an Apprentice Mechanic with an independent garage in Fauldhouse, West Calder, Scotland. You will train full-time, earn while you learn, and work towards SCQF Level 7 in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.

During the 3-year apprenticeship you will study at GTG and in the workplace with mentors, learning vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, diagnostics and component replacement while gaining hands-on experience in a real workshop.

Qualifications

• Must have or expect to gain National 4 or above in English, Maths, and either a Science or Technical Subject.
• 3‑year Modern Apprenticeship with SCQF Level 7 in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair through GTG.

Responsibilities

• You will be based within the garage workshop and learn all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance, including servicing, MOT preparation, removal and replacement of major components and electrical fault diagnostics.
• Examples of the units covered include Materials, inspection of light vehicles, diagnosing chassis components, and engine faults, plus safety and good housekeeping.

GTG Training are recruiting for an Apprentice Mechanic on behalf of an independent garage. This is a fantastic opportunity for those who are ready to advance their career within the automotive industry. The Modern Apprenticeship Programmes allow apprentices to work full time and earn while they learn putting theory into practice within a training environment. As well as attending the training centre for week block release of training, regular assessment and reviews will be undertaken within the apprentice's own workplace which aims to ensure they have the required skills to successfully complete their apprenticeship.

What Might a Typical Day in this Job look like?

You will be based within the garage workshop and will be involved in learning all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance, including vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, removal, replacement and overhaul of major components and electrical fault diagnostics.

Examples Of The Units Covered Are

• Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment
• Inspection of light vehicles
• Diagnosing and rectifying chassis units and components
• Diagnosing and rectifying vehicle engines and component faults
• Ensuring your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
• Contributing to workplace good housekeeping

What will I learn?

Regular assessment and reviews will be undertaken within the apprentice's own workplace with dedicated mentors from GTG and the apprentice’s workplace, which aims to ensure they have the required skills to successfully complete their apprenticeship. During the 3 year apprenticeship, candidates will train through GTG to SCQF Level 7 in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.

What qualifications or qualities are required?

You must have or expect to gain National 4 or above in English, Maths, and either a Science or Technical Subject.

What personal qualities are required?

• You are able to prioritise and work to timelines.
• A willingness to work in a practical environment using your own initiative.
• A full UK Driving licence is not essential but preferred.
