Job summary

Machfab Engineering Limited is offering a full-time Machining Technician apprenticeship (Level 3). You will learn to operate and adjust CNC and conventional machines, read drawings, and verify parts with precision instruments.

The role develops analytical thinking, attention to detail, and teamwork within a manufacturing environment. The 3-year 6-month program progresses through CHESHIRE COLLEGE SOUTH AND WEST as the training provider, with structured on-site work weeks and comprehensive safety

Qualifications

  • GCSE English minimum level (4/C) required.
  • GCSE Maths minimum level (4/C) required.
  • GCSE Science preferred (4/C).

Responsibilities

  • Set up, run and adjust conventional and CNC machines to produce complex parts.
  • Read and analyse engineering drawings, specifications, and digital work instructions.
  • Measure finished parts using precision tools to ensure correct tolerances.
  • Select, secure, and monitor cutting tools and work-holding devices.
  • Maintain a clean workspace and follow health and safety protocols.
  • Participate in daily safety checks and foster a safe working environment.

Job description

Introduction

The broad purpose of the occupation is to produce complex and precision work by machining components. Components are machined from metal or specialist materials using conventional or CNC machine tools. Machining Technicians interpret information and plan their activities.

What You'll Do

Reporting to the senior engineer, the vacancy will require the candidate to:

  • Set up, run and adjust conventional and CNC machines (milling, turning, grinding) to produce complex parts
  • Read and analyse engineering drawings, specifications, and digital work instructions
  • Measure finished parts using precision equipment like micrometres and vernier callipers to ensure correct tolerances
  • Select, secure, and monitor cutting tools and work-holding devices
  • Maintain a clean workspace
  • Perform daily safety checks
  • Follow strict health and safety protocols
Training Outcome

Full-time CNC/conventional machinist role is available upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
