Job summary

Silvergate Plastics in Wrexham is seeking a Level 2 Apprentice Laboratory Technician to join our quality control and R&D teams in a fast-paced polymer laboratory.

You will gain hands-on experience with routine testing, sample preparation, data recording, calibration, and safety procedures while working toward a nationally recognised qualification. The role offers structured training and potential progression to a permanent technician position.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs including Maths, English and Science (Grade 4/C or above).
  • Strong interest in science, chemistry or materials.
  • Good attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic IT skills (Microsoft Office).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine laboratory testing of masterbatch materials (colour matching, dispersion, melt flow, mechanical properties).
  • Prepare samples and conduct quality control checks in line with specifications.
  • Record and analyse test data accurately using laboratory systems.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure calibration is up to date.
  • Follow health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
  • Support continuous improvement activities within the lab.
  • Work closely with production, technical, and quality teams.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Level 2 Apprentice Laboratory Technician. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing laboratory while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.

You will support our Quality Control and R&D functions, ensuring that products meet strict performance and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with routine laboratory testing of masterbatch materials (e.g. colour matching, dispersion, melt flow, mechanical properties)
