Forestry England is recruiting an Apprentice Forest Craftsperson to join our teams at Grizedale Forest, Hawkshead, Cumbria, and Peil Wyke, Bassenthwaite Lake, Cockermouth. You will work alongside forest craftspeople and beat teams, gaining practical experience while following a structured training programme.
You will train to obtain the Level 3 Forest Craftsperson Apprenticeship and contribute to creating, maintaining and harvesting forests as part of the UK timber industry.

Salary- £24,492 per annum
Contract type – Fixed term appointment until 30/09/2028, with the possibility of extension or permanency.
Hours – 37 hours per week

You will work alongside forest craftspeople and beat teams to gain practical experience whilst following a structured training programme. You will contribute to practical operations creating, maintaining, and harvesting forests as part of the UK timber industry. You will be trained to obtain the necessary and training and awards to achieve the Level 3 Forest Craftsperson Apprenticeship. There are 3 positions available, 2 of which are based in Grizdale Forest, Hawkshead, Cumbria, LA22 0QJ and the other in Peil Wyke, Bassenthwaite Lake, Cockermouth, CA13 9YG. 1 of the Grizedale posts will be in the recreation team gaining experience in maintaining recreation facilities along side the apprenticeship. The Behaviours being assessed at interview are – Working togetherDevelopingSelf and othersDelivering at Pac. You may also be assessed on Experience, Strength based questions, and/or the Technical Success Profile at the interview. The technical element could include a presentation, practical or written task. Successful candidates will undergo a criminal record check and the government baseline personnel security standard check.
