Job summary

Forestry England in West England Forest District is recruiting a Forest Craftsperson to join our team at Cookworthy Forest Office, Beaworthy. The role involves delivering a range of forest operations, inspections, and land shaping in a demanding outdoor setting, with a focus on safety and quality.

What you’ll do…

The role of a Craftsperson champions a broad forestry skillset in challenging environments and embraces the outdoor office.

You will support the beat forester by shaping the land that we manage, delivering a range of compliant operations and inspections in the forest such as

  • Surveying, including measuring and tariffing
  • Tree safety work
  • Planting and establishment work

The ability to work in a team, and autonomously, is really important, delivering work to high quality and health and safety standards, practically and efficiently.

You will be asked to write a 200 word statement on your relevant experience and career history, along with a personal statement of no more than 500 words. You will be assessed on both during sifting.

You will be assessed on experience and a technical skill during your interview.

Where you’ll work…

West England Forest District is responsible for the sustainable management of over 37,000ha of land in the west and south-west of England. From the ancient woodlands in the steep-valleys of Cornwall, to the majestic veteran oaks of Savernake Forest in Savernake; from the spruce plantations of the high moors of Dartmoor, to the Douglas Fir stands in the Welsh Marches, and with the stewardship of the historic Forest of Dean. West England Forest District covers a vast range of habitat and woodland types.

This role is based at the Cookworthy Forest office, near Halwill .

Alongside your salary, Forestry England contributes an average of 28.97% towards your pension. You will become a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension Scheme.
