With over 100 years of experience, Muntons is a significant global supplier to the food and drinks industry, producing high-quality malt and malted ingredients for renowned brands worldwide.

This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to join the Muntons Engineering team, responsible for maintaining and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Stowmarket site. The apprenticeship is recognized by Muntons and aligned with the relevant framework, leading to responsibilities in electrical and mechanical engineering tasks, including planned maintenance, small projects, installations, and breakdown repairs.

Day-to-Day Engineering Activities - Led by and supported with your mentor:
  • Respond proactively to engineering breakdowns to maximize production and minimize downtime.
  • Plan access for preventive maintenance tasks using the CMMS system.
  • Communicate daily with your mentor and Engineering Team Leader to prioritize tasks.
  • Participate in and update all tasks in the CMMS system, including breakdowns and preventive maintenance.
  • Work flexibly, adapting to changing work demands and routines.
General Maintenance Activities - Led by and supported with your mentor:
  • Perform day-to-day repairs within your skillset and training scope.
  • Carry out plant modifications as required.
  • Participate in maintenance work during plant shutdowns.
Plant Hygiene - Led by and supported with your mentor:
  • Ensure tools and equipment are removed from food processing areas after tasks.
  • Maintain a tidy engineering workshop.
Administration - Led by and supported with your mentor:
  • Respond to internal customer requests with updates via email and CMMS.
  • Keep detailed records of work completed in the CMMS system.
Electrical Tasks - Led by and supported with your mentor:
  • Fault find on electrical control and power systems, including intermittent faults.
  • Identify causes of motor overloads, test/replace motors, and select suitable alternatives.
Electromechanical Tasks - Led by and supported with your mentor:
  • Fault find and repair pneumatic valves, cylinders, electrical actuators, and electric brakes.
Mechanical Tasks - Led by and supported with your mentor:
  • Identify and repair failed bearings, shafts, motors, conveyors, and elevators.

Additional Considerations

Applicants with GCSE qualifications will be paid between £16,000 - £18,000, and those with A Levels will be paid between £18,000 - £20,000. The role involves working at heights and in varied conditions, including dusty, tropical, and noisy environments. Post-apprenticeship, roles may involve lone working and team collaboration.

Future Prospects

The program aims to develop your skills and knowledge for a future engineering role within the organization. Training will be provided, but a permanent position cannot be guaranteed.
