Job description

The Opportunity: Apprentice Workshop Engineer

Location: Chatham Service Centre (Kent)

Salary: £15,704 in Year 1 (for Under 19s)

AmeyBriggs maintains and manages the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) fleet of construction and material handling equipment, and other key plant. The Apprentice Engineer training programme offers you the opportunity to become a fully qualified Construction Plant Engineer. AmeyBriggs’ Engineers fault find, maintain, service, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems within the MOD’s equipment fleet.

The Impact You Will Have:

  1. Complete the 3-year apprenticeship qualification: Land-based Service Engineering Technician Level 3 qualification (Construction Plant Engineering Apprentice).
  2. Gain on-the-job experience, starting with shadowing your mentor and other Engineers, progressing to performing tasks under supervision, then alongside qualified Engineers where your work will be checked and signed off.
  3. Work will be carried out on customer premises and at AmeyBriggs Service Centre locations within your specified region.

What Will Help You to Excel in This Role:

  1. 3 GCSEs at grade 4 / C or Scottish National 5 Grade C or above in English, Science & Mathematics (or equivalent) – Desirable.
  2. Enthusiasm for all aspects of engineering, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic - hobbies related to maintenance/repair, work or voluntary experience, topics studied at school/college.
  3. Basic IT skills, such as email, websites, and text documents.
  4. Clear, polite, and professional verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with mentors, line managers, customers, and other members of the Briggs’ Equipment Group teams.
