Job summary

McHale Komatsu in the UK is recruiting an Apprentice Construction Plant Engineer based in Plymouth to start a rewarding career in heavy plant engineering. The 4-year fixed-term programme includes a 3-year college-based apprenticeship, with hands-on work in the workshop and in the field.

You will train alongside experienced service engineers, gain practical experience, learn to carry out repairs, inspections and diagnose faults, and develop planning and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths, English and Science at grade 4/C or better.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Keen to learn and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Gaining hands-on experience in workshop and field environments.
• Assisting with maintenance and repair of construction equipment.
• Learning major repairs and component inspections.

About the role:

We are looking to recruit an Apprentice Construction Plant Engineer, based in Devon, to join our team and begin an exciting career in heavy plant engineering.

This is a fixed-term 4-year programme, including a 3-year college-based apprenticeship, designed to support your development from day one. Youll work closely with experienced and qualified Service Engineers, gaining hands‑on experience both in the workshop and out in the field.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to build a successful long-term career in the industry.

What will you be doing:

Alongside your college studies, you'll gain practical experience by:

Working as part of a close‑knit team in both workshop and field environments

Supporting the maintenance and repair of advanced construction equipment

Learning how to carry out major repair work and component inspections

Understanding how the machinery and key components operate

Developing planning and problem‑solving skills when diagnosing faults

Learning the importance of teamwork, communication, and safe working practices

Gaining insight into the support functions that keep operations running smoothly
