Shepherd Neame is excited to be recruiting for an Apprentice Commis Chef to join our team.
If you haven’t got any previous chef or hospitality experience, please do not worry. As long as you possess some of the qualities outlined below, we can train you and teach you everything else you will need to know.
Chefs working towards their Level 2 Commis Chef apprenticeship will learn and understand how to carry out basic functions in every section with our training provider partner in their Commis Chef Academy. This learning provides chefs the opportunity to experience, consider, and value each section of the kitchen, with a view to choosing an area where they feel most inspired. Apprentices will attend workshops and development days to enhance their knowledge, skills, and behaviors, and will have access to an online learning platform and portfolio system.
What will you do as an apprentice?
Duties will primarily be based in the kitchens and include:
Previous catering experience would be beneficial. However, if you haven’t got experience, please do not worry. So long as you love food, are confident, motivated, and a great team player, we can train you and teach you everything else. Our training partner, HIT Training, will guide you through your learning journey.
What's in it for you?
The Commis Chef Academy includes master classes and workshops. You will be required to travel to a training kitchen as part of your learning journey. Apprentices spend time with industry experts, sharing ideas and boosting understanding in areas such as preparation, cooking, flavor profiling, dish composition, and seasonality. Content is derived from industry-recognized qualifications. You will have a coach for 1-2-1 sessions at your workplace and for progress reviews with your line manager.

Upon successful completion of this Level 2 apprenticeship, you may progress into a Senior Production or Chef De Partie role.
