Job summary

GTG Training are recruiting for an Apprentice Autocare Technician on behalf of an independent garage in Hereford. This full-time apprenticeship offers an opportunity to earn while you learn and begin a career in the automotive industry.

You will train through GTG Wolverhampton, attending block release weeks to Level 2 Autocare Technician or Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician, with mentoring and regular workplace assessments.

Qualifications

• GCSE Level or above in Maths, English and a Science or Technical subject or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Learn all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance in a garage workshop.
• Assist with vehicle servicing and maintenance tasks.
• Contribute to MOT preparation and routine inspections.
• Assist in removal, replacement and overhaul of major components.
• Perform diagnostics under supervision and learn fault finding.
• Follow health and safety guidelines and maintain clean workspace.

The Modern Apprenticeship Programmes allow apprentices to work full time andearn while they learn putting theory into practice within a training environment.

As well as attending the training centre for week block release of training, regular assessment and reviews will be undertaken within the apprentice's own workplace which aims to ensure they have the required skills to successfully complete their apprenticeship.

What Might a Typical Day in this Job look like?

You will be based within the garage workshop and will be involved in learning all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance, including vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, removal, replacement and overhaul of major components and electrical fault diagnostics.

Examples of the units covered are:

• Materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment
• Inspection of light vehicles
• Diagnosing and rectifying chassis units and components
• Diagnosing and rectifying vehicle engines andcomponentfaults
• Ensuring your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
• Contributing to workplace good housekeeping

What will I learn?

Regular assessment and reviews will be undertaken within the apprentice's own workplace with dedicated mentors from GTG and the apprentice’s workplace, which aims to ensure they have the required skills to successfully complete their apprenticeship.

A full UK Driving licence is not essential but preferred.
