Russell Tobin is seeking a hands-on software engineer for a 6‑month remote contract based in the UK. The focus is on building practical AI‑enabled solutions, automating internal workflows and reducing manual effort.

This role demands independent ownership of end‑to‑end product engineering, including APIs, backend services and data workflows, plus strong problem‑solving and clear communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of production software engineering, product engineering or ML engineering.
• Experience building and integrating APIs, backend services, data workflows or full-stack applications.
• Strong understanding of software development practices, including automated testing, debugging, monitoring and production reliability.
• Experience owning technical projects independently, from initial problem definition through implementation and launch.

Responsibilities

• Build and deliver end-to-end internal products, integrations and data workflows.
• Develop AI-powered tools and automation solutions to improve internal processes.
• Work closely with technical and non-technical teams to understand requirements and define technical solutions.
• Convert prototypes and manual processes into reliable, reusable and scalable products.
• Design evaluation frameworks and feedback loops for AI-powered workflows.
• Implement production engineering best practices, including automated testing, monitoring, observability and error handling.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency while reviewing and validating generated code.
• Monitor product adoption, quality and performance, identifying opportunities to reduce manual work.
• Manage multiple technical projects independently, prioritizing work based on business impact and complexity.
• Create technical documentation and onboarding processes to support long-term product maintenance.

Location: Remote, UK based candidates only

Contract Duration: 6 Months initially

Working Hours: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

About the Role

The focus is on building practical AI-enabled solutions, improving internal workflows and reducing manual effort through automation.

This is a hands-on software engineering position, not an AI research, prompt-writing, content labelling or project coordination role.

• End-to-End Product Engineering: Minimum 7 years of experience independently designing, building, testing, launching and maintaining production software, including APIs, backend services, data workflows or full-stack applications.
• Product & Technical Problem-Solving: Strong ability to understand ambiguous business or user requirements, identify the underlying problem and translate them into practical, scalable technical solutions.
• Communication & Stakeholder Management: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions, trade-offs and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
