Job summary

Salience Labs Ltd is seeking a Software Engineer – Applications and User Interface to translate complex systems into intuitive software experiences. You will build user-facing software and interfaces, working closely with hardware and embedded teams to deliver robust UX.

You will contribute to architecture, own features end-to-end, and collaborate across technical disciplines in a fast-moving startup environment in Oxford. A strong foundation in frontend tech and Python is expected.

Qualifications

• Experience developing frontend or user-facing software.
• Proficiency in Python; other languages beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frameworks.
• Experience building software that interacts with APIs or backend services.
• Familiarity with Linux.
• Proven ability to contribute to an existing codebase and become productive quickly.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured debugging approach.
• Clear communication skills and ability to work across technical disciplines.
• Delivery-focused mindset with attention to speed, quality and maintainability.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and end-to-end software understanding.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain user-facing software, interfaces and APIs for our products.
• Build intuitive, responsive frontend experiences for complex technical systems.
• Work with backend and systems software to integrate UI functionality with the product.
• Contribute to application architecture, software design and technical decisions.
• Take ownership of features from requirements through development, testing and deployment.
• Collaborate with hardware, embedded software and system test teams to understand system behaviour and deliver UX improvements.
• Debug issues across the software stack and resolve problems with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Improve development workflows, tooling and software quality as the team scales.
