Job summary

Mansell Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Applications & Proposal Engineer to join our technical engineering team. You will turn customer enquiries and drawings into accurate quotations and practical manufacturing proposals.

You will work with customers and internal Sales, Design and Production teams to assess requirements, develop manufacturable concepts and commercially viable solutions, and support quotations with accurate data.

Qualifications

• Experience turning customer enquiries and drawings into quotations and manufacturing proposals.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and customer specifications.
• Strong understanding of manufacturability, cost and production efficiency.
• Excellent technical judgement to assess practicality and achievability.
• Attention to detail in preparing quotations and maintaining technical information.
• Strong communication with customers and internal teams.
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, ideally Fusion 360.

Responsibilities

• Review customer enquiries, drawings and specifications to inform quotations.
• Prepare accurate quotations and proposals based on customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
• Assess feasibility and manufacturability of proposed solutions, suggesting practical alternatives.
• Develop manufacturing approaches and provide initial technical concepts for quotation and design.

• Advise on tool applications, toolpaths and process improvements where appropriate.
• Assist with turnkey solutions and technical packages tailored to customer needs.
• Collaborate with Sales, Production, Design and Engineering to ensure sound proposals.

Job description

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Applications & Proposal Engineer to join a technical engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for turning customer enquiries and engineering drawings into accurate quotations, practical manufacturing proposals and commercially viable solutions.

The role will combine technical engineering knowledge with customer support and commercial awareness. You will work closely with customers and internal Sales, Design, Engineering and Production teams to assess requirements, establish suitable manufacturing methods and provide technical guidance. You will also support customers with product applications, cutting data and process optimisation, helping to develop effective engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and interpret customer enquiries, engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Prepare accurate quotations and proposals based on customer requirements, manufacturing capabilities and commercial considerations.
• Assess the feasibility and manufacturability of proposed solutions, identifying potential issues and recommending practical alternatives.
• Develop suitable manufacturing approaches and provide initial technical concepts to support quotation and design activities.
• Support customers with product applications, cutting data, process optimisation and effective use of technical products.
• Advise on cutting-tool applications, toolpaths and process improvements where appropriate.
• Support the development of turnkey solutions and technical packages tailored to customer requirements.
• Liaise with Sales, Production, Design and Engineering teams to ensure proposals are technically sound and commercially viable.
• Consider manufacturing costs, cycle times, lead times and other factors affecting quotation accuracy.
• Maintain accurate quotation records, technical information and customer data within relevant business systems.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers, providing clear and effective technical support.
• Identify opportunities to improve quotation processes, manufacturing efficiency and customer outcomes.

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in an Applications Engineering, Proposal Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar technical role.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and customer specifications.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and the factors affecting manufacturability, cost and production efficiency.
• Good technical judgement and the ability to assess whether proposed solutions are practical and achievable.
• Strong attention to detail, particularly when preparing quotations and maintaining technical information.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers and internal teams.
• Confidence in providing technical guidance and explaining engineering concepts to customers.
• Experience with CAD/CAM software, ideally Fusion 360, would be advantageous.
• Experience pricing bespoke, engineered or low-volume products would be beneficial.

The Package

Circa £50,000, depending on experience.

Full-time, permanent position.
