Ernest Gordon Recruitment is seeking an Applications Engineer (Substations/IEC 61850) based in Stafford to join a recognised provider of protection testing equipment. This role combines customer-facing training, technical support and product development with significant international travel.

You will deliver classroom and field-based training, troubleshoot on-site issues, and contribute to new product input while supporting customers across power generation, transmission and distribution sectors.

Qualifications

• Several years of experience in power systems, especially substation protection.
• Basic understanding of IEC 61850.
• Willingness to travel internationally (up to 50%).

This role would suit an Applications Engineer with several years of experience in power systems, particularly substation protection, looking to develop their career within a customer-facing technical role involving training, technical support, product development and international travel.

The role:

• Provide product consultation, training and technical support on protection testing and diagnostic equipment
• Troubleshoot technical issues and provide on-site customer support relating to applications
• Develop and deliver product training through classroom sessions, field-based training and webinars
• Provide input into new products, product strategies, development and application requirements
• Develop application notes and technical papers and present at relevant seminars and conferences

The person:

• Applications Engineer or similar
• Several years of experience within power systems, particularly substation protection
• Basic understanding of IEC 61850
• Flexible and willing to travel internationally, with up to 50% travel
