Job summary

Boyd Thermal Solutions, Inc. in Ashington, United Kingdom is seeking an engineer to develop thermal/mechanical solutions and manage projects from concept to prototype.

You will create 3D models and 2D drawings, liaise with customers and internal teams, and support manufacturing transfer while ensuring quality and safety standards are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is desirable but not essential.
• Industrial experience in design, development and manufacturing is considered.
• Experience with CAD to generate 3D models and 2D drawings is expected.

Responsibilities

• Act as principal contact for customers' engineers and manage thermomechanical projects.
• Generate thermal management solutions, potentially using CFD analysis.
• Create engineering designs using 3D modelling and 2D drawings.
• Raise material and equipment purchase requests and oversee prototype build and test.
• Coordinate with Production/Manufacturing Engineering for manufacturing transfer.
• Support Sales and maintain customer information per procedures.
• Comply with Health & Safety requirements and 5S housekeeping targets.
• Provide engineering support when other engineers are unavailable.

Job description

PURPOSE OF JOB

To develop innovative thermal/mechanical solutions to resolve customer requirements. Manage Projects and provide engineering support to customers and internal departments to develop innovative technical solutions to meet both customer and BOYD expectations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• To act as principal point of contact for customers' engineers.
• Responsible for the generation of thermal management solutions to customer's requirements, potentially with the benefits of CFD analysis.
• Managing individual projects allocated. This will involve creating engineering designs using 3D modelling, 2D drawings.
• Raising PO Requests for materials, equipment and the subsequent responsibility for the prototype build and test To liaise with Production/Manufacturing Engineering to ensure a smooth transition into manufacture and ensuring that any processes introduced meet Customer requirements.
• To work with and support the Sales Department function.
• To ensure that Customer related information is maintained and archived in accordance with Departmental procedures.
• To work with due regard to Health and Safety requirements.
• To ensure that 5S housekeeping targets are achieved in areas of control.
• To support the Engineering function when other Engineers are not available.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is desirable but not essential. Suitable industrial experience in line with the role would equally be considered.

EXPERIENCE

• Up to 3 to 4 years engineering experience in a design, development and manufacturing environment Familiar with the use of CAD to generate 3D models and 2D drawings.

SKILL & KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

• Highly numerate and computer literate
• Excellent analytical problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Knowledge: Knowledge of 3D CAD design in one or more of the following; Machined components Assemblies
• Whilst not essential, a knowledge of thermodynamics and Computational Fluid Dynamics would be useful
• Basic knowledge of Electrical aspects of engineering
• Commercially aware with regard to design and development of product
