Boyd Corp in Ashington seeks an engineer to develop thermal/mechanical solutions and manage projects from concept to prototype. You will generate 3D models and 2D drawings, liaise with customers and internal teams, and support production transfer while maintaining compliance with quality and safety standards.

The role requires up to 3–4 years engineering experience, CAD proficiency, and strong numeracy and communication skills in a busy manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is desirable or equivalent industrial experience.
Up to 3–4 years engineering experience in design, development and manufacturing.
Familiar with CAD to generate 3D models and 2D drawings.
Strong numeracy, analytical thinking and clear communication.

Responsibilities

Act as principal point of contact for customers’ engineers.
Generate thermal management solutions, potentially using CFD tools.
Manage individual projects: create designs, 3D models, 2D drawings, raise materials PO's and oversee prototype build/test.
Coordinate with Production/Manufacturing Engineering for smooth transfer to manufacture.
Support Sales and maintain customer information per procedures.
Work with Health & Safety and 5S housekeeping targets.

Job Description

To develop innovative thermal/mechanical solutions to resolve customer requirements. Manage Projects and provide engineering support to customers and internal departments to develop innovative technical solutions to meet both customer and BOYD expectations.

PURPOSE OF JOB

SPECIFIC DUTIES

To act as principal point of contact for customers’ engineers.
Responsible for the generation of thermal management solutions to customer’s requirements, potentially with the benefits of CFD analysis.
Managing individual projects allocated. This will involve creating engineering designs using 3D modelling, 2D drawings. Raising PO Requests for materials, equipment and the subsequent responsibility for the prototype build and test
To liaise with Production/Manufacturing Engineering to ensure a smooth transition into manufacture and ensuring that any processes introduced meet Customer requirements.
To work with and support the Sales Department function
To ensure that Customer related information is maintained and archived in accordance with Departmental procedures.
To work with due regard to Health and Safety requirements.
To ensure that 5S housekeeping targets are achieved in areas of control.
To support the Engineering function when other Engineers are not available.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is desirable but not essential. Suitable industrial experience in line with the role would equally be considered.

EXPERIENCE

Up to 3 to 4 years engineering experience in a design, development and manufacturing environment

Familiar with the use of CAD to generate 3D models and 2D drawings.
