Job summary

Nurture Solutions in London is seeking an experienced Application Analyst (Technical) to join an application modernisation programme focused on assessment, discovery and transformation of legacy applications into modern .NET solutions deployed across Azure and OpenShift.

This hands-on role works with application owners, architects, developers and DevOps to document functionality, dependencies and data flows and to define modernisation options.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Application Analyst, Technical Analyst or similar.
• Hands-on experience in technical discovery and legacy modernisation.
• Experience assessing Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6 and PowerBuilder.
• Good understanding of .NET modernisation and Azure/OpenShift.
• Strong analytical and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical discovery and assessment of legacy applications.
• Analyse applications developed using Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6 and/or PowerBuilder.
• Document application functionality, architecture, interfaces, data flows and dependencies.
• Work with application owners and business users to understand business processes, usage and criticality.
• Identify technical debt, risks, dependencies and modernisation challenges.
• Gather and document functional and technical requirements.
• Assess modernisation options including re-engineering, re-platforming, replacement, consolidation or retirement.
• Support the definition of modernisation solutions using .NET, Azure and/or OpenShift.
• Produce clear application assessment reports, technical documentation and modernisation recommendations.
• Work alongside architects, developers and DevOps teams to support migration, testing and deployment.

Application Analyst (Technical) – Application Modernisation

Location: London / Hybrid (2 days per week in office, 3 days remote)

Contract: 4-6 months + likely extensions

Day Rate: TBC

We are looking for an experienced Application Analyst (Technical) to join an application modernisation programme focused on the assessment, discovery and transformation of legacy applications into modern .NET solutions, deployed across Azure and OpenShift/container platforms. This is a hands‑on technical discovery and assessment role, working closely with application owners, business stakeholders, architects, developers, DevOps and infrastructure teams.

• Conduct technical discovery and assessment of legacy applications.
• Analyse applications developed using Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6 and/or PowerBuilder.
• Document application functionality, architecture, interfaces, data flows and dependencies.

Essential Experience

• Proven experience as an Application Analyst, Technical Analyst, Application Consultant or similar.
• Strong experience in application discovery, technical assessment and legacy application modernisation.
• Hands‑on experience assessing one or more of: Excel/VBA, MS Access, VB/VB6 or PowerBuilder.
• Good understanding of .NET application modernisation.
• Understanding of Azure and/or OpenShift/container platforms.
• Strong knowledge of application architecture, APIs, databases, integrations and dependencies.
• Excellent analytical, requirements‑gathering and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to translate technical findings into clear business requirements and recommendations.

Ideal Candidate

You will be a technically credible Application Analyst who can bridge the gap between legacy applications, business processes and modern technology, providing the discovery, assessment and technical insight required to support the transition from legacy platforms to .NET and Azure/OpenShift.

Please note: Candidates with purely functional Business Analyst or Project Management backgrounds, without hands‑on experience in technical application discovery and legacy application assessment, are unlikely to be suitable.
